Have you ever wanted to have 2 whatsapps on your phone. One for bae 1 & the other for bae 2.
Or one for work, and the other for non-work activities.
Or you want to manage one SnapChat account for personal use and the other account for your online store.
Well, you can’t have more than one whatsapp/account per device so sorry.
Oya come back, meet Parallel Space, an app that allows you have 2 whatsapps on one device. The app allows you clone any app so you can have two on the same device. Too awesome and we’ve been loving it.
How it works: The app creates a virtual space on your phone to operate, so you can have an app running on your device and another instance of the same app running on the virtual space that is Parallel Space. We like Parallel Space because it doesn’t need root privileges, it will however ask for a number of permissions to run, all which are needed for it to run a virtual space.
You start by downloading Parallel Space on your phone. The home screen after you launch is empty, below you can see I have 3 apps. Tap on the ‘+’ sign at the lower right and the app begins to gather all apps currently installed on your mobile device, select the apps you want to clone by tapping on them. When you are done, tap ‘Add to Parallel Space‘ at the bottom of the screen. (Parallel browser is a default browser on Parallel space. Found it lacking as a browser though, the Uber app is a suggestion)
Tap on the cloned app to enter the necessary account details. Set it up and you now have two of the same app on the same device.
The app allows you set themes for the apps you clone. Looks exciting. You can also set notifications so you receive notifications from any of the apps. Ideal for setting time out to relax & sleep so you are not getting messages from work whatsapp. You can also set a password so no-one can access your alternate universe.
On the settings menu, you have the option to see what tasks are using up operating space on your device and stop them. You also see the storage space left on your device & how much the apps on parallel space are consuming.
There is also the option to swipe into Parallel Space, this allows you set areas of your default home screen as Parallel Space areas, such that when you swipe your default home screen in those areas, it immediately opens up Parallel Space for you. Cool, we know! Stop shouting. Balance work & leisure life comfortably on the same device.
So get using & enjoying Parallel Space. User experience depends on the phone you’re using. Some phones don’t get Whatsapp notifications in real time. Also, Parallel Space sometimes introduces you to apps to download, this doesn’t happen often.
There is no Parallel Space for Apple at this time.
